TUBITAK (106M050) (2006-2008) (Budget: 235,980 YTL) “Investigation of Infilled Reinforced Concrete Frames retrofitted with Carbon Fiber Polymers by using Psedudo Dynamic Testing Technique” Scope: Most of the low and mid-rise structures located in our country are composed of reinforced concrete (RC) frame type building systems. The earthquakes that have taken place over time and the damage observation studies afterwards showed that these structures are lack of engineering services and they have no earthquake resistance. The idea of applying carbon fiber composite polymer (CFRP) to the infill walls in order to retrofit the RC structural systems having insufficient strength and ductility against earthquake effects without disturbing the occupants has been the subject of many researchers. A series of experimental studies have been completed in Istanbul Technical University Building and Earthquake Engineering Laboratory (ITU-STEELAB) on the retrofitting of RC frames by using CFRP. In the context of these studies, in-plane behavior of CFRP reinforced reinforced concrete frames was determined by static and pseudo-dynamic testing tests. In conclusion, significant results have been obtained, such as the use of CFRP material to the infill walls, which significantly improves the in-plane earthquake behavior of reinforced concrete systems and that a large part of the seismic input energy is dissipated through the infill walls. |
